Plastic Cups at the Serpent Trail
Many disposable cups are used at Checkpoints in races and we very much want to try and minimise the impact our events have where possible.
It is increasingly common in Ultra distance races, where the participants may stop for longer periods of time in aid stations to re-fuel, that participants carry their own re-usable cup with them. This can considerably cut down on the number of disposable plastic cups used and thrown away in events.
The 100k and 50k Serpent Trail race participants will NOT have plastic cups available to them in the checkpoints. Obtain a re-usable cup OR use the water bottles you are carrying for your general hydration needs (as per the kit list) will be needed for drinks at the checkpoints.
We strongly recommend carrying something like this with you to use in checkpoints;
The Half Marathon and 10k race participants will have plastic cups available to them in checkpoints. This is because in shorter distance races participants do not generally want to stop and fill up their own cup nor carry it with them. We have taken this view and come to this decision to maintain the urgency and quality of experience in the shorter duration races and not detract from the expected norm of ease of access at water stations in races of this length.
Although if you are carrying a water bottle or similar with you then please consider filling that instead, or getting a soft cup as in the link above to cut down the number of cups used and thrown away. (Nb - we do try to recycle as much as possible)
